Introduction
Mydriacyl 1% Ophthalmic Solution is a sterile eye preparation containing Tropicamide 1%, an anticholinergic agent used as a mydriatic and cycloplegic medication. It works by relaxing muscles in the eye, causing the pupil to dilate and temporarily affecting the eye's ability to focus. This medicine is commonly used during eye examinations and refraction procedures. Some people may experience temporary stinging, blurred vision, increased sensitivity to light, or mild eye irritation after the drops are applied.
Dosage
For refraction or diagnostic eye examinations, the usual dosage is 1β2 drops in the affected eye(s). A second application may be given 5 minutes later if required. If the examination is delayed by 20β30 minutes, an additional drop may be instilled to maintain adequate pupil dilation, according to your eye doctor's instructions.
Side Effects
- Stinging sensation when the drops are applied
- Temporary blurred vision
- Increased sensitivity to light (photophobia)
- Temporary increase in eye pressure (intraocular pressure)
- Dry mouth
- Rapid heartbeat (uncommon)
- Central nervous system disturbances, particularly in children (uncommon)
- Behavioural disturbances or psychotic reactions (rare)
- Eye redness or irritation
- Allergic reactions (rare)

Drug & Food Interactions
Mydriacyl may interact with cholinergic eye medications such as pilocarpine, carbachol, and ophthalmic cholinesterase inhibitors, which may reduce its pupil-dilating effect.
